Let’s dispense with the obvious right away: Some Boulder City residents say they think most of their city council members, along with the city attorney, are power hungry and care as little for the law as they do for the will of the people.

Since city leaders decided to sue five citizens for having the guts to place three initiatives on the November 2010 ballot — proposals to limit the city’s ownership to one 18-hole golf course; to require a citywide vote before city officials incur new debt of $1 million or more; and to limit terms on city committees to 12 years — the legal action has ignited a storm of controversy in this hamlet of 15,000 fiercely independent souls.
